Oregon State Archives Research and Use Options
Tips on How to Use Our Resources
View the Web tour of the Oregon State Archives for complete details about research options, services, and other important information about using records at the Archives. The tour also describes costs associated with ordering individual documents or case files - View description.
In general, more in-depth researchers have three main options:
The most comprehensive, timely, and cost-effective research is still conducted by planning a visit to the Archives Building in Salem. This makes all of the Archives resources available on a nearly immediate basis. Photocopies are $0.25 per page self service.
If the researcher is unable to travel to the Archives Building, limited research and copy services by our staff are available. Research will be conducted at $40 per hour for up to four hours per request. Any photocopying by Archives staff costs $0.75 per page.
Several private, fee-based researchers are willing to work to specifications. The Archives is not affiliated with these researchers and does not take responsibility for any agreements made. Contact the reference room for more information.
Please note that many images in this exhibit are from other repositories.
Any image shown in the exhibit that has a citation ending with "OSA" is available for purchase from the Oregon State Archives. Some of the images were scanned from original publications with less than ideal photographic or graphic characteristics. The cost for obtaining a digital image is $20 for Oregon residents and $25 for all others. Contact us to order digital copies or for information about obtaining copies as photographic negatives or prints.
Any image lacking a citation ending with "OSA" is not available for copy from the Oregon State Archives. Please contact the source cited or general sources for copies. Images lacking any citation are commonly available on the Web.
