Oregon Archives Week will be celebrated during the week of October 8-16, 2005. Archives Week is intended to raise awareness about archives in the public. This is the second year that Oregon has celebrated Archives Week, which features activities at archival institutions such as the Multnomah County Archives, Oregon Historical Society, City of Portland Archives, and the Benton County Historical Society.

According to Acting State Archivist Layne Sawyer, spokesperson for Oregon Archives Week, “This year we will be celebrating archives as "Landscapes of Discovery," emphasizing the significance of historical documents throughout the state. Oregon has numerous archival facilities and services waiting to be discovered and we want the public to know about them.”

In support of this, Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski issued a formal proclamation for the 2005 Oregon Archives Week.

The staff of the Oregon State Archives invites the public to join us for an open house in the lobby of the Archives Building on Thursday, October 13 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. Tours of the facilities will also be offered. The Archives Building is located at 800 Summer St. NE, Salem, Oregon.

Contact Layne Sawyer at 503-373-0701 ext. 239 if you have any questions. To learn more, visit the Oregon Archives Week web site.
