Vital Records
Access Restrictions
The Oregon Health Division's Administrative Rule 333-011-096 states that all birth records (including indexes) have a 100 year access restriction, and death certificates have a 50 year access restriction. Access to vital records in the Archives that are restricted must be obtained through the State Registrar. The State Registrar's address is Oregon Center for Health Statistics, Suite 205, State Office Building, 800 N.E. Oregon St., Portland, OR 97232; telephone (971) 673-1190. The Archives will not release restricted information without written authorization from the State Registrar. Access restrictions are indicated by an asterisk (*).
Note: If you are looking for a copy of your birth certificate, please contact the Oregon Center for Health Statistics [Map]. They have certified birth and death records beginning in 1903, marriage records in 1906, and divorce records in 1925.
Vital Records at the Oregon State Archives
The following is a list of vital records in the Oregon State Archives. Vital records include birth, death, marriage, and divorce documents. In most cases, the delayed birth and divorce records listed were generated by Oregon circuit courts. The records held by the Oregon State Archives are either in the original format or part of the Reference Room Library as microfilm or publications. The microfilm and publications are available for self service in the Reference Room.
