Records Originally Sent to Oregon Historical Society
About the records
The records represented here cover a wide range of activities of the governor and his staff. They include reports and correspondence from state agencies, communications to and from various members of Goldschmidt’s staff, scheduling and trip records, reports of legislative activity, topical and issue files, and records created at the end of his administration to assist in the transition with the incoming administration.
The box list and folder headings are from the original finding aid created by the Oregon Historical Society. The list has been edited slightly for consistency and to provide additional information as necessary. The contents of each box and folder have been scanned as Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Some folders have very few items while other folders are quite large containing more than a hundred pages. In total, the subgroup amounts to over 150,000 PDF pages representing over seven gigabytes of data.
Category II records
The designation "Category II" was used in the original finding aid to indicate non-record material such as publications, and ephemera. Only selected items from Category II folders have been scanned. Although the finding aid includes all of the boxes originally deposited with the Oregon Historical Society only the public records were transferred to the Archives. Users will see entries for those other records but there will not be links to PDF files. Additional; records that were deposited by Mr. Goldschmidt at a later date are not represented in this finding aid as they were not inventoried. The one box that did contain public records was transferred to the Archives and is included in this finding aid as Box 203.
Legibility
Some original records were of a quality that produced illegible scans. Staff have added targets to indicate the poor quality originals and if necessary researchers may contact the Archives reference staff to determine whether another duplication process may produce a legible copy.
Access restrictions
Records generated by the Governor’s Legal Counsel are still being reviewed for access restrictions by Governor Kulongoski’s legal staff and will be included as the review is completed. Records identified as exempt from disclosure have been removed and are generally indicated by a target or separation sheet at the appropriate place. Additional information that is exempt from disclosure may have been redacted from the record and then scanned thus making the remainder of the record available for researchers. Questions about exempted records may be sent to the Archives manager, Layne Sawyer.
