Calls the meeting to order at 9:06 a.m. and opens the Conference Committee on HB 2230B. Reviews correspondence submitted regarding the A-6 amendment, (EXHBIT A).

HB 2230B WORK SESSION

Sen. Walker

States HB 2230B-7 amendment has been offered to the committee members prior to the meeting. States that the B-7 amendment is SB 828 relating to telecommunications. Explains that since the House Business, Labor and Consumer Affairs Committee is closed, the conference committee for HB 2230B provided an opportunity to move the bill.

Chair Close

Acknowledges Senator Walkerís concern about the SB 828 legislation. Expresses the Chairís preference to continue to work on re-opening the Business, Labor and Consumer Affairs Committee rather than include it in HB 2230B.

Sen. Walker

Responds there is no opposition to the bill and it is supported by the Department of Corrections.

Responds that Chair has not seen the amendment and the amendment is not the purpose of the Conference Committee.

Rep. Schaufler

States that he discussed this with Senator Walker and adds that the phone company supports the amendment. States that if the amendment was introduced he would be supportive.

Explains that House Rules state an amendment has to be checked with the committee chair.

Reiterates that the amendment was left with staff.

Responds that a personal discussion would have been appropriate.

MOTION:Moves HB 2230B to the floor with the recommendation that the House CONCUR in Senate amendments dated 05/05/03 and REPASS the Measure.

States that she will be a no vote.

Asks if there is not a majority of the senate voting in favor, does the bill die.

Sen. Nelson

States this is an important bill and should not be allowed to die. Moves to recess the committee for discussion.
