Probate Case Files

1886-[ongoing]

Series documents actions taken on probate cases brought before the county, district, or circuit court for settlement. Records include wills, receipts, claims, vouchers, petitions to sell, notices of annual accounting, final estate accounting reports, appraiser's affidavits, bills of sale, inventories, fee bills, appraisals, administrator and appointment certificates, and appraiser oaths. In 1969, all probate jurisdiction was transferred from the county and district courts to the circuit courts with the exception of Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Malheur, Sherman, and Wheeler Counties where probate jurisdiction was transferred to the county court. Portions of these records may be restricted.

An electronic index for probate case files beginning in 1886 and imaged documents beginning in 1975 are available on computers in the clerk's office.
