Polk County Records Inventory

County Court Judicial Journals

1846-1968

Series records the proceedings of the county court for civil and some criminal cases. Information includes judge, plaintiff, defendant, and attorney names; trial date; memorandum of subsequent proceedings; and fees charged. Cases include citizenship petitions, legal changes to name, commitments, and writs of habeas corpus. Portions of these records may be restricted.

[County Court Minutes-Judicial Journal], 1846-1848, 1852-1856 (1 reel of microfilm).

Journal County Court [includes mostly judicial actions and some administrative actions-includes widow's pensions-with index], vol. 6, 1932-1954 (1 volume).

Records at the Polk County Public Works Department Building, Surveyor's Office:
County Court Civil Journal [Judicial-includes some probate matters], vol. 2, 1860-1866 (1 volume).

Records at the Polk County Historical Society Museum, Archives:
Civil Court Case Records [County Court Journal Civil Action], vol. 3, 1866-1883 (1 volume);
County Court Journal [includes adoption, widow's pension, judicial, and administrative actions-with index], vol. 5, 1904-1932 (1 volume);
County Court Journal [includes primarily delinquent child cases-jurisdiction changes to circuit court in ca.1965], vol. 7-12, 1954-1968 (6 volumes);
Early Probate Journals [County Court Journal-includes probate and judicial matters], vol. 1, 1848-1859 (1 volume).
