Series documents Forestry Department involvement in a United States Forest Service project to designate Oregon wilderness areas. Most of the records deal with the conflict between federal, state, and private concerns regarding the designation of wilderness lands. Records include statistical reports, project reviews, maps, environmental impact statements and supplements, decision analyses, Roadless Area Review (RARE) abstracts, RARE II reviews, coordinated state response, publications, and correspondence. Subjects include wilderness areas, forest management, environmental concerns, environmental groups, state/federal coordination, logging industry, and endangered wildlife.
