Titled “Rock Oyster Queen,” this photograph shows a Native American woman, Annie Ditallo, gathering oysters at Newport in the late-18th or early-19th century. The sledgehammer and prybar were used to extract the oysters, which were then carried in the traditional basket on her back. (Lincoln County Historical Society, LCHS #1195)
