Recognizes and honors present and future role played by Oregon families that continuously own and operate same Oregon farm or ranch for 150 or more years.

CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas the Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program was founded in 1958 and is administered through the Oregon Agricultural Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; and

 

Whereas the mission of the Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program is to generate pride and a greater public awareness of the role family-owned farms and ranches play in the economic and social vitality of Oregon; and


Whereas the Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program honors families that have continuously owned and operated the same farms and ranches for 100 or more years; and


Whereas there are more than 1,075 farm and ranch families that have achieved that 100-year milestone; and

 

Whereas century farms and ranches are located in all but one of Oregon's counties; and

 

Whereas Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program families receive a certificate of acknowledgement from the Governor and the Director of Agriculture; and

 

Whereas colorful road signs are available for display by century farms and ranches; and

 

Whereas the Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program provides people of all ages with knowledge and awareness of the social and economic impact of agriculture; and

 

Whereas the Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program acknowledges the role that family farms and ranches play in providing stability to their communities; and

 

Whereas the Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program has become a storyteller for Oregon's farm and ranch families; and

 

Whereas all of the Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program's accompanying documentation and photos are included in the Oregon Historical Society research library; and

Whereas the documentation and photos provide valuable information about settlement patterns, livestock and crop choices and the history of Oregon farming and ranching; and

 

Whereas the Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program reflects the image of Oregon independence and self-sufficiency; and


Whereas there are now families that have continuously owned and operated the same Oregon farms and ranches for more than 150 years; and


Whereas the Oregon Century Farm and Ranch Program also recognizes and honors farm and ranch families that have continuously owned and operated the same Oregon farms and ranches for 150 or more years; now, therefore,


Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon:


That we, the members of the Seventy-fourth Legislative Assembly, in special legislative session assembled, recognize and


honor the important present and future role in this state played by Oregon families that continuously own and operate the same Oregon farm or ranch for 150 or more years.
