Cover Photo Contest Guidelines

Contest
Winning photographs will be published on the front and back covers of the 2013-2014 Oregon Blue Book.
Entrants
Open to amateur photographers of any age who are Oregon residents.
Entries
Photographs must be original images taken by the entrant and may not have been previously published. A negative or high resolution digital image must be made available upon request.
Content
The cover photos shall be color photographs that represent or typify some aspect of Oregon: scenes, landscapes and activities are acceptable. People, animals, structures, etc. may also be included.
Dimensions
All photos submitted must be color and must have a vertical (portrait) orientation. Images may have minor alterations for color, contrast, etc. but may not be significantly altered, appear unnatural, or have elements added or removed.
35mm or higher film submissions
Minimum print size is 5" x 7". Winning photographers must make available either a negative or slide of print upon request.
Digital image submissions
Digital images may be submitted only on photo-quality paper with image dimensions of at least 5” x 7”. Image quality must be at least 5" x 7" at 300 DPI, which is equivalent to 1500 x 2100 pixel dimensions or a photo taken with a 3.2 megapixel camera at the largest image setting. Winning photographers must make available an electronic copy (TIFF, high quality JPEG, etc.) of the print upon request.
Images that do not meet these criteria will not be considered for the cover.
This is an example of a landscape or horizontal orientation. Images with this orientation are very unlikely to win the contest and a spot on the cover of the print version of the Oregon Blue Book. Identification
All images must be accompanied by a fillable pdf entry form. The print must be marked with or have attached the name and telephone number of the entrant. Information about the photograph should include location, date taken, and any other relevant information that would be useful in writing a caption.
Deadline
Entries will be accepted through October 4, 2012 (postmarked by October 4, 2012). Send entries to:

Judging
A committee designated by the Secretary of State will make recommendations on the selection of winning photographs. Secretary of State Kate Brown will make the final selections.
Winners
A brief description of the winning photos and photographers will be published in the Blue Book. The winners will be invited to the Secretary of State’s news conference announcing the release of the new Blue Book. Winners will be notified by phone or mail on or before December 31, 2012.
Other Uses
All entries will become part of the Archives Division’s permanent collection of Oregon photographs. Entries cannot be returned. Selected entries may be exhibited at the Archives Building or on the Oregon State Archives Web site. Photographs submitted to the Cover Photo Contest but not selected for the cover may be chosen for use elsewhere in the Blue Book with full credit given to the photographer.
