Present Duties

The Appraiser Certification and Licensure Board (ACLB) is a semi-independent agency that regulates real estate appraisers, appraiser assistants and appraisal management companies in Oregon. Its functions are independent of other realty-related regulatory agencies.

The ACLB protects the public by ensuring that all real estate appraisal activities conducted in Oregon are in compliance with state and federal laws. The ACLB ensures that appraisals are performed in writing and in accordance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice by individuals whose competency has been demonstrated and whose professional conduct is subject to effective supervision.

The board was created in 1991 to implement Title XI of the Federal Financial Institutions Reform Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989 in Oregon.

The ACLB relies on eight volunteer board members who are appointed by the governor. Five of the eight members are real estate appraisers, one member represents the banking industry, one represents appraisal management companies and one is a public member.
