Present Duties
The Oregon Board of Dentistry was created in 1887 and administers the Dental Practice Act and rules of the board, establishes standards for licensure, and examines and licenses dentists and dental hygienists. The board regulates the use of anesthesia in the dental office and certifies dental assistants in radiologic proficiency and expanded functions. The board investigates alleged violations of the Dental Practice Act and may discipline licensees. Members of the Board of Dentistry are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate. There are ten board members: six dentists, one of whom must be a specialist, two dental hygienists and two public members. Members serve for four-year terms.
The board is supported solely by revenues received from licensees, including application, license, permit and certification fees.
