The Mortuary and Cemetery Board is composed of 11 members appointed by the governor: two funeral service practitioners, one embalmer, three cemetery representatives, one crematory representative and four public members.
The board regulates the practice of individuals and establishments engaged in the sale of funeral, cemetery and crematory goods and services as well as the care, preparation, processing, transportation and final disposition of human remains. The board’s licensees include funeral service practitioners, embalmers, apprentices, pre-need sales people, death care consultants, funeral establishments, immediate disposition companies, cemeteries and crematories.
The board’s programs include background investigation, apprenticeship, practitioner examination, licensing, facility inspection, complaint investigation and education. The board’s financing is derived from licensing, examination and death registration fees.
