Duties and Responsibilities: The Board of Maritime Pilots is an independent occupational licensing and regulatory agency for state maritime pilots who navigate ships on certain territorial waters of the state. Established in 1846, the board exists today as Oregon’s oldest state agency. A maritime pilot is a local navigational and ship-handling expert, engaging in a professional occupation that requires education, experience and licensure.
