Present Duties
The State Board of Licensed Social Workers, created in 1979, is composed of four licensed clinical social workers and three public members. The board regulates licensed social workers and issues four license and certification types: Registered Bachelor of Social Work (RBSW), Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW), Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA) and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). The board sets policy, writes and adopts rules, renews licenses and audits continuing education requirements. The board investigates allegations of misconduct by licensed social workers, unauthorized use of protected titles and the unlicensed practice of clinical social work. The board has the authority to discipline licensees; to deny, revoke, suspend or refuse to renew a certificate or license; and to impose civil penalties. Board meetings are held in Salem and are open to the public.
