PROVEN LEADERSHIP

Public Education

As the mother of two daughters and a graduate of two public universities, education is a priority for me. As a legislator, I supported quality education and stable funding for K-12, community colleges, and higher education. I also helped establish a Rogue Community College campus in Jackson County.

Healthy Economy

Family wage jobs are essential for Southern Oregon. We must focus on improving Oregon’s workforce opportunities.

Fiscal Responsibility

As a former Jackson County Budget Committee member, I know how to balance budgets. I was a strong voice in the Legislature for prioritizing spending and considering fiscal choices in their entirety. I fought to make sure Southern Oregon gets its share of state funds.

Safe and Strong Communities

I co-sponsored the “Best Interest of the Child” bill, limiting the time an abused child can spend in foster care before a decision is made on permanent placement. I also co-sponsored legislation enabling patterns of abuse to be entered as evidence in domestic abuse cases, making it easier to prosecute batterers.

Health Care

As a registered nurse, I have always been a strong advocate for accessible health care. During the 1997 Legislative Session, I sponsored bills to increase patients’ right and their access to information about health plans. In 1995, I worked to help patients with incurable pain obtain medical treatment they needed.

Personal Responsibility

I authorized a bill which allows for tougher prosecution of drunk drivers; the bill passed both houses unanimously.

Integrity

Southern Oregonians may come to me with an idea or concern and expect attention and honesty in return. Please feel free to contact me with any thoughts or question you have: 541-941-7707.
