Biography
Deputy Secretary of State Brian Shipley leads the executive management team for Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown, directing operations of elections, audits, corporations, archives, and agency support divisions.
Named to Portland Business Journal’s 2012 list of “40 Under Forty” emerging young leaders, Brian joined the Secretary of State’s office after overseeing state and national government affairs and public relations at Forest Capital Partners, LLC—one of the nation’s largest private landowners and an innovator in sustainable forestland investment management.
Brian has played leadership roles in both the executive and legislative branches of Oregon state government. After serving as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Ted Kulongoski, Brian stayed on to assist Governor John Kitzhaber in navigating his successful first legislative session upon returning to office. Previously, Brian served in leadership staff positions in the Oregon Legislative Assembly, including Chief of Staff to the Senate Majority Leader and Director of Legislation for the Senate President.
Brian graduated from Willamette University with a degree in Politics and Environmental Science and received his law degree from Georgetown University.
